UPDATE
Frank alerted me to the fact that when he tried registering his blog it actually asked him for his blog login information. Something happened between the time I registered this blog and he tried doing his, as this did NOT happen to me when I registered Reflection 2.0. When I just tried registering a classroom blog of mine, it asked me for my blog login and password. So, I’m no longer very sure about this service. I don’t want to delete the post as it’s already in aggregators……….I’ll keep you posted!

I am trying out a new service called BlogBackupr, thanks to a tweet from @garageflowers (Damian Bariexca). It’s still in beta, but so far it looks really good. It shouldn’t need any explanation - the name pretty much does it! Their confirmation email to me suggested that I blog about the service, and as I’m rather open to suggestion, I’m doing it. This fills a need in my online work, especially after the last few days. It seems like a great service……………..unless IT goes down as well :-) Try it out, it can’t hurt! Or can it…………….?

Thanks for this resource .. Like you, I am increasingly cautious. Best to be prepared. With all this craziness going on this past week (your story below) … “they” certainly have my attention.
Gonna check out this backup program now ….
Thanks, Frank
Kate … I got scared to run it after this loony week. The site did not have a green light from my McAfee SiteAdvisor (as your site does) … and they want my blog username and ID? … I just couldn’t do it. Too much at risk. When it has a green indicator, I will try!
Plus there were misspelled words on the page … made me worried I must admit …
Frank
Frank -
I’m sure you’re right to be skeptical :-) I’m just rather adventurous and I’ll let you know how it goes. The site didn’t ask me for anything other than my blog url and email and then had me set up an account and emailed me a password. It didn’t ask me to enter any blog login/password info. If I get burned, you can say “I told you so” and I’ll come cry to you on your forum…………
Original comments above were before the update was added!
Sure Kate … likely no problem, just some developer wanting to get a head start. Site isn’t very professional looking .. yet! Here is a screenshot:

Misspelled word, blurry graphics, SiteAdvisor not green, and asking for my blog ID and password (popup on top of original screen asking for only url and email.
Let us know how it goes, I’d love to make backups!
Frank
Sorry .. took me half hour to redo this post of the screenshot. Edublogs is really slow tonight. Here is the correct URL:

Thanks for the update. I think I’ll let other braver people try this first. I’m a little leary about giving someone else acdcess to my password. lol
Kate,
Thanks for boldly going where I, for one, have never been before. Does it just save the current posting, the present date, or archive the entire blog?
I’m a late-bloomer. Running hard to keep up with you youngsters.
Happy Anniversary!

check out blogbackuponline.com, another option.
Hi Kate, i’m the creator of the BlogBackupr service! Sorry for the bad english on the site but english isn’t my native language. Please mail me any errors!
The login for your blog is required if the blog engine is WordPress and it is for easy/backup-restore. Thanks!
Hi Jonas … sorry for the “scare” posts. The English spelling really wasn’t a big issue. For me it was the fact that we have had a series of hard-to-explain security issues on the Net this past week … and your Site does not yet get a “GREEN LIGHT” from McAfee SiteAdvisor. That was my main concern. Because anyone can write a page that captures private information for improper purposes. It’s best to be cautious. Our blogs are our personal journals with a lot of effort and love behind them. We just need to be certain that they can be trusted in someone else’s hands.
Perhaps you could request that McAfee review your Site … there is a way to do this.
I know that I’d love a way to make a backup easily, other than generating my own OPML file, or whatever it’s called.
Thanks, Frank
Frank, i understand your concern. That’s why i’ve created the service. But there is always this trust issue, if I create a WordPress-plugin, do you trust to run the plugin? Etc.
I will request McAfee to review the site.
Thanks
