Oh, you’re Mrs……….?

by Kate Olson on April 18, 2008

I just subbed for a 6th grade core teacher for 2 class periods. I’ve had all of these students for 2 - 10 day sessions, 60 min each in keyboarding class. Only half of them remembered my name. And people wonder why I want my own classroom. With my own students. Where I might actually make an impact.

I often wonder the same thing. I moved to the library from third grade after teaching in the classroom for 8 years. There are many days when I miss having my own group of kids. I also wonder if I could do more (with students & tech) if I was in a middle or high school - or in a district where most of the kids have computers at home. My school has maybe 50%. This makes it hard to connect outside of school.

I’m just starting my final prac in a yr 3 class. Apparently ‘Mrs Carbis’ is to hard to remember so I have become ‘Mrs C’. Oh well, I still have to remember to reply to either one, because I have never been a ‘mrs’ or a ‘c’ or a ‘carbis’ ever before when teaching!

Talia » Don’t worry, my maiden name (when I was student teaching and subbing) was Ms. Joppa and NO ONE could pronounce that! I was Ms. J very quickly :-) It was such a relief to turn into Mrs. Olson, although it was rather strange to wake up one day with a new name!
