Independence Day

Flag on BarnIf it were up to MSNBC and the INS, I wouldn’t be a U.S. citizen right now. My 65% on the slightly-modified INS naturalization test assures that I’d be turned away at our great country’s gates - depressing, huh?

I choose to grumpily blame this on my middle, high school, and college education rather than my lack of history-reading at my ripe old age of 27. Or perhaps it’s just because our nation is rather…..how may I put this delicately….hmmmmmm……INSANE when choosing what to test immigrants on?

I scored a 65% - take the test please, it’s your patriotic duty as the 4th of July here in the States approaches and you prepare to celebrate all of the supposed freedoms we have…………and deny others because they don’t know what the stripes on the flag mean.

Actually, that’s one of the questions I got RIGHT, how ’bout that!?

I’m afraid I’m the ringer on this test, since I’m in grad school for U.S. history. The only question I missed was the pointless one about the naturalization form.

I got 90% young Kate. I should have know #8 but am foggy on some of the amendments. Missed #19 also - never had reason to learn about the forms for naturalization.

Both of my father’s parents were Italian immigrants who studied English & history and became proud American citizens. Thanks for reminding me of their desire to become a part of this great nation.

Tim - Yup, you’re the ringer! Maybe you could help me out with this area, I obviously need some tutoring!

Diane - Thanks for your story about your father’s parents - I wish I knew more about my family’s history! I’m jealous of your 90%, I’m obviously in the minority among my readers!
