Just want to share a site that I’ve been in love with for a few months - Colourlovers. This is a creative design community for creative inspiration…………or you could call it what I do - just a really fun place to look at colors and pick out palettes for design projects.
Rachael, my wonderful designer and friend, pointed me toward Colourlovers when we were working on the design for This Mommy Gig - I’ve been infatuated since. When Rachael asked what colors I was thinking of for the project, I tried to give names to what I was thinking of - she cut me off after about 20 seconds and sent me on my way to the sandbox for design lovers, knowing that I’d find something perfect.
How ’bout that? I DID find something perfect - 3 somethings, to be exact (the palettes shown in the image here). I then twittered the choices by sharing a link to my favorites
page and got a great response from people telling me which to choose. I then passed it on to Rachael, who tells me the palettes can be downloaded and imported directly into PhotoShop - I wouldn’t know this since I’m not a PS wizard like she is, but it obviously worked!
We were able to use the same palette later on when Rachael designed buttons (shown here so you can see Rachael’s work and see how the palette was used) for the TMG sidebar and then again just this weekend when Ken Stewart of Changeforge (my newest WordPress buddy) was helping me with the new theme we’re going to be switching to at TMG. I was yet again trying to describe colors and then I remembered that I could just share my favorites page - simple as that! We were then able to describe the actual color by the same name and he could make sure he had the identical shade - much easier that way.
There are a bunch of little tweaks that need to be made still, so it’s not up and running yet, but Ken was AWESOME and answered my tweet late Friday night when I was looking for a 3 column WP theme with a customizable header - we then moved to GChat and with Ken’s work on the code and Rachael’s late night re-work of the header, the new theme was ready to play with!
As we all know, though, playing with WP often takes time (and who has much of THAT?), so it might be a bit before the new and improved look is ready for public consumption……..without Ken and Rachael’s (and twitter’s) help, though, it wouldn’t have gotten off the ground.
Back to Colourlovers - check it out and try not to get addicted…………
And Ken, I owe you!
In the name of paying it forward - can I help ANYONE with ANYTHING? Seriously, if there’s something you think I could help you out with, PLEASE just let me know - email me at kolson29 at gmail dot com or leave a comment here……..that’s what community is all about.
More of Rachael’s work can be found at her professional site - Caffeinated Design.

Kate, you were by far the easiest client to work with. I loved how you tried for some kind of public consensus as well before picking the best shades - you have a real knack for figuring out how to do what most people will respond to best.
:) Thanks for all the great publicity - I cannot wait to see the new theme in operation! It’s going to be fantastic!
Kate, thanks so much for the shout out… If everyone was as easy to work with as you, life would be a dream. I look forward to seeing the new theme and if you need more help tweaking it, just say the word.
